Downtown arts festival and some pre-race stretching

This past weekend was a good time in Cbus. We’ve lived here for 4 years and this is the first time we decided to head downtown for the arts festival. There were vendors from all over the U.S. and some of the pieces of art and jewelry were incredible. There were a couple of vendors who were selling beautiful pieces made of various types of wood. I wish I had taken some pictures of their work, because the colors and textures were simply amazing. If I’d had the extra cash to shell out, I would have bought one of their gorgeous cutting boards. They looked something like this.

While we were downtown, we snapped a quick picture down by the water with a view of the Columbus skyline. This is another thing we were excited to do before we move later this summer.

Sunday morning was race time for me. I ran in the Columbus 10K and it was a fun race overall. It was hotter and more humid than it has been during my long training runs, but it was bearable. What I didn’t expect was all of the inclines in this race!! Ugh… But, I made it and ran like the wind. πŸ™‚ My final time for the 10K was 48:30 at a 7:49 average pace.

Something I’ve started doing more before I run is a little bit of light stretching.

stretchingI don’t do anything too heavy, but I make sure to do several leg swings and get my hips warm. I’ve had a lot of pain in my right hip and IT band, so I make sure to do something to warm up beforehand in order to avoid pain later.

There were a few really cool parts of this race for me. First, my sister-in-law (here visiting from Brazil) and hubby were able to come and cheer me on. I also saw a family of four ducks and a teeeeeeny baby turtle on the route. It was very cute. Hopefully none of the runners smushed it! Since we ran close to the river for the 5th mile, it was a nice view, but again, the inclines. hurt. big time.Β I took today off and laid low, but hope to get in a few miles tomorrow.
