Big news! I decided to run the L.A. Rock and Roll Half Marathon this fall. Actually, I’ll be running it with my husband. I’d been looking for another half marathon to do, because it’s been a couple of years since my last one. I can’t believe it’s already been that long! I think I’ve mentioned before that I try to do a couple of races per year. I don’t shoot for any specific distances when I choose races, because really, I just do it to have a good time. When we found this race, my husband was all. over. it. He’s a huge fan of rock music, so the name sold him. Even if the bands at every mile aren’t playing rock, he’ll be a happy camper. This is the guy who plays the air guitar during the toughest parts of our spin classes… yes, really. I laugh every time… well, for a few seconds anyways (since spinning and laughing are difficult to do at the same time). I don’t know how he does it.
Another deciding factor that made us choose this race is that I wanted to run a race that directly benefited a charitable organization. I decided to join Team ASPCA and raise money to aid abused and homeless animals. If you’ve ever had a pet you love, you know how much they mean to you and your family. If your pet is a rescue, you know the awesome feeling of bringing that animal into your home and giving it a better quality of life and a chance to thrive. I grew up with dogs as pets, all of which were adopted from the Humane Society or were rescues. I have great friends who rescue animals and give them a loving home, and the transformation I’ve seen in their pets is incredible. Whether you have a dog, a cat, a bird or any other pet, you probably feel like you can’t imagine what life would be like without them. They definitely hold a special place in our families.
I’m hoping to raise $1,500 to help support programs that work to improve conditions for animals and provide support for rescue and relocation programs. If you would like to support me by making a donation and help me make a positive impact in the lives of animals, please visit my fundraising page. You will receive a tax acknowledgement from the ASPCA for your donation. If you make a donation and have a pet, please let me know! I’d love to honor your pet during a week of my training. Feel free to send me a photo, and I’ll share it when I post my progress that week.
Thank you for supporting my running habit and supporting programs to end animal cruelty. I’ll leave you with a photo of one of our family’s dogs, Purdie. 😉 To donate, please click here.
